Be The Dad You Wish You Had - Ryan Roy

The video below is NOT a word for word reading of the book. It is the author giving a different perspective on the text to help YOU get a deeper understanding of the material
Children Sleep in Their Own Crib/Bassinette…no sleeping with mom and dad.
In my experience, I know this was a difficult challenge for my wife in the first two weeks. There are certain risks involved with the child being in the bed with the parents at a young age such as SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). This made it easier for my wife to accept him not sleeping in the bed with us. In Twelve Hours in Twelve Weeks, it said we needed to create habits for healthy sleeping. The book suggested the baby should never sleep in the bed with the parents because it creates a co-dependency on the parents for comfort and the baby does not learn to self soothe.
Our solution: we moved the bassinet next to our bed. In the first few weeks, the bassinet was right next to our bed. Within a few weeks, we were able to transition him into his bedroom and eventually into his crib. He has slept in our bed very few times, such as when he has been sick or when he wet his bed in the middle of the night during potty training. He has never slept in our bed two nights in a row. Even when we travel we have a blow-up bed for him.
